I also know you don't have to cut the shock towers to install a 351C. I dropped one in my '71 Mav. I wanted to see how it fit before my friend put it back in his Cougar. The motor had kick-outs on the oil pan. It took some work to get the oil pan past the frame (where the motor mounts go). A stock style deep-sump would drop right down. The engine fits just fine. It's a little tight, so plug changes might take some work. Also, the Tubular Automotive Headers have the front tubes running in front of the frame. It's a snug fit, but it all works.
