Yes, he's right but you still have to be careful. Sometime around '81, Ford switched the 302's to 50 oz.
Also, I checked the price for a new balancer to replace one of ours. From the local Ford dealer, the price was around $130.00 for the stock replacement. Instead, for about $160.00
(+ S/H,etc..), I ordered a "Blue Cat" SFI Liquid Damper from Chet Herbert. Their ads are always in National Dragster. The damper is listed as a Small Block Ford Damper. But, it will fit all 289, 302 ( up to '81), 351W, 351C, 351M, and 400's. You just have to check the pulley alignment. We used this damper on a 351C and 400 already. For about $30 over the price of a stock one, it's well worth it.
