My battery is good and my altenator is good. But my battery is not getting a charge. If it sits for a while it will build back up and when I get it running I can disconnect the battery (+) and it will still run. So is there a wire that is supposed to run from the alt. to the battery or am I missing something else. Thanks. Try this, get hold of a good volt meter, with the engine running connect the meter to the + and - posts accordingly. The meter should read 13 to 14 volts, if it is not that high then alternator and or regulator are BO. If it is reading good voltage to the battery then have a good load test performed on the battery, including test for internal shorts. Electrical gremlins can be a real pain in the butt. Good luck. My son just went through this with two rebuilt alternators that were only showing 10.5 volt output. Had to enlighten the fellow at parts store that was not enough to charge a 12 volt battery.
