spreading of computer virus with intent to damage files or computers is against federal law, check it.
FBI took down the creator of the Melisa virus...
odds are it was an accident, but...

Chris,

I have received the same e-mail as you and I highly doubt that it was knowingly sent from anyone who frequents this message board. Even if "Jan Bauer" was a person from this board they obviously have a computer virus and dont even know they are spreading it. This is probably what happened.

It is important to have an anti-virus software and to update the virus definitions on a weekly basis. I use Norton anti-virus which automatically updates itself and scans all my e-mails before it reaches my computer. Its not free, but at $50.00, its worth. Even if you do not post your e-mail on the web, it may be in someone's address book. If that person gets infected with an e-mail worm, it will spread itself to everyone in the address book. Then when you receive the e-mail and open it, as it comes from a trusted source, you get infected and automatically spread it to everyone in your address book. This is especially true if you use MS Outlook.

I get many e-mails a week and 2-3 contain viri. Did I call the FBI? NO! I really don't think they have the time to look into such a matter and would probably have to confiscate your computer as evidence.
