MSD pretty good stuff. Alot of people use them. But, I think some of their stuff is outdated (ex: MSD 5 and 6 boxes). They are the old analog type. If I were you, I would step up to a digital box. We have a Holley HP Annihilator on my Dad's car. It's only about $160.00 last time I checked. We also are using a Mallory Hyfire VIIS on our drag car. It's digital too, but it costs quite a bit more.
Don't forget about the stock distributor. If it's the original type, it's probly a points distributor. They are a pain, so toss it. A good way to go is with the stock Ford Duraspark distributor. The stock Duraspark distributor is a magnetic pick-up system similar to what's in MSD's Billet Dists., but it's about $150.00 less. Just put on a good cap and rotor. Also, don't over look the Ford Racing spark plug wires. They are 9MM and really good quality. Not to mention they are only about $50.00. Use them with a Crane HI-6 or Holley HP Annihilator box with their matching coil.
So, with a distributor (reman.) $75.00, ignition box $160.00, wires $50.00, and coil $30.00-60.00, you are looking at about $350.00. Actually, right now Summit is selling the HI-6 box with it's matching LX-92 coil for only $190.00. That way the total will be about $320.00. You also might even beable to save a little bit more if you can find a good used distributor. They shouldn't be hard to find. They were on every Ford vehicle from the late '70's to the mid '80's.
