i would still love to get some confirmation on this...
i am told that all ford 8 inch rear ends, use 28(?) spline axles. given this logic.. i should be able to find another ford vehicle with a beefer gear ratio, and possibly a posi-trak. i was told that a lot of manual trans equipped "mustang II's" came with a 3:42 posi. anyone know about this? are there other compatible chunks that will slide into my existing maverick housing? im thinking earlier mustangs, falcons, ranchero's, fairlanes, trucks, etc... im big into 2nd hand power. id like to think i save myself appreciable money if i just know where to look. where can i find an affordable chunk+ratio for my existing 2:79 8 incher? .................................... ....The 8" rears are 28 spline as is 'most' of the 9" rears. ....Go to the website of Perogie Enterprises and look at the selection of 8" rear gears for you info.. Its quite large. More than is offered new. I can't tell you what cars, trucks and codes to look for, for all these ratios, because its to much info. ....Posi centers are sold by a numder of companies. ....You just can't get away for much less than $600 for new parts like gears, the posi and the installation kit if doing your own work. ....Wish you luck in finding good used equipment. Somtimes it happens. I got a complete gear and posi for $75 and rebuilt it but would not be that lucky again. Ken |
