I have a 77 302 two door mav. when I bought it in slc. it seemed to run ok.. but had a smoke problem... the elderly gentleman I bought it from had had the trans rebuilt and put on dual exz (which ment it would not be street legal in slc0 it smokes a bit (haveing sat for for three plus years) he said he could get it through em but when i picked it up you now have to pump the excel at least 20-40 times to get it to start and then it is hard to keep it running until it gets hot.. aand then when it's in gear to keep it running has to idle at about 20mph
just to keep going. I think he may have leaned out the card to cut carbs..... what do you think
......................
If it is leaned out that much, it wouldn't pass a sniffer test anyway. The CO would most likly be to high from misfire. I think there is a problem with the fuel sysatem or the carb. If you need to pump that much. Adjusting carb needles lean would not cause hard starting as the accelerator pump should be pumping fuel every time the pedal is pushed. Under normal circumstance you would have flooded the engine and not started at all with 10 pumps. Where is...slc0 ?
