i have a question as well, how can i tell visually if it is a 9 inch? i have a donor car that is a 70 fairlane and i was told that since the gears load in from the front that it ment that it was a 9 inch, is this true or do 8 inches load from the front as well?
........................... Mav/Comet came with 7.5" in with the 6 and 8" with the V8 engines. No 9". The difference between the 8 and 9" ...The 8" tends to have small flat sides top, bottom and sides. The bolt mounting on the sides are inline with the axle. ...The 9" is a round case and has it's mounting bolts centered top to bottom as opposed to the 8 that is spaced top and bottom. ...A look in the Summit catalog will show the gaskets for each type. The differeces can be seen. ...Many of the internal parts are the same between the 8 and the 9 except the pinion and ring gears. |
