Check the filter in the gas tank to. Also your fuel pump diaphram might be bad. If you have to pump it 20-40 times, especially after setting 3 yrs the carb probably leaks the fuel out from bad gaskets. Fuel pump bad, carb leaks, fuel filters old. Time to rebuild the fuel system. Don't nickle and dime it, just do it.
I have a 77 302 two door mav. when I bought it in slc. it seemed to run ok.. but had a smoke problem... the elderly gentleman I bought it from had had the trans rebuilt and put on dual exz (which ment it would not be street legal in slc0 it smokes a bit (haveing sat for for three plus years) he said he could get it through em but when i picked it up you now have to pump the excel at least 20-40 times to get it to start and then it is hard to keep it running until it gets hot.. aand then when it's in gear to keep it running has to idle at about 20mph
just to keep going. I think he may have leaned out the card to cut carbs..... what do you think
