I'm running out of ideas here! I'm putting a 302 in place of my i6 200 in my '69.5 Maverick. Well after a few trial and errors, here's where i am: I have a '69 Transmission (different from the 70) with 24 splines. I have a 1980 302. The flexplate is for the '80, and i don't know what the bellhousing is off of...but it appears to fit nicely around the flexplate and it bolts right up to the transmission. Now here's the problem--the torque converter! Right now i have one that has the wrong bolt spacing and seems to sit too far back in the bellhousing (i mean, i know it can sit back a little....but this is about 1.5-2"!). I need a 11.4" bolt spacing. Is there any year of torque converter that i can use? What are my options? Thanks! Chris, not what you want to here. But time to change to a later C4 with 26 spline from a v8.
