My electric choke is broken I was told I could go to an old manual one for about 20 bucks .... will this hurt me??? also the under the choke on the card ( oem 2 bbl 302) there is a hose nipple..... what is it for...also the is a threaded nipple to the choke why and what is it??? and last what does that little electrical cylinoid do ??? so I am still learning about cars I am a lineman for the phone company !!
.......................... Hi Sam, The black cap has an bimetalic spring that operates the carb choke position. It should have a single wire push on connection that goes to the alternator. ..The nipple should have vacuum applied via a hose. The threaded fitting should have a metal tube that goes down to the iron manifold. ..Two things are supposed to happen. 1..When the engine starts, the alternator will then supply voltage to a heating element in the black cap and heat the spring causing the carb choke plate to open slowly. 2..The engine vacuum pulls hot air through the tube from the exhaust manifold to assist the spring in the cap in opening the carb choke by heating and putting a force on a small piston plunger. Best I can do for you SAM. And keep them line trucks, poles, color codes, binding posts and tip/rings straight and don't give the co. any sh?t!! Ken |
