I just read the response from the guy that claimed to be a "left wing environmentalist' , And I am shocked .
First of all , ANY legislation regarding scrapage of older vehicles needs to be faught vigorously . One must realize that it would be the first step to an outright ban of older vehicles . Haveing lived in California for 27 years, (Thank God I got out) I have seen this tactic before . It goes like this , If you can't get everything you want at first, (as far as passing legislation) then add law after law after law , making whatever it is you want a reality . Guys and Gals this is the first step in abolishing old cars . The fuel consumption and air pollution arguments are fictitious too . I'll give you an example . How many gas guzzling Ford pickups Built between 1995 and now are on our highways? And how many 1970 - 1977 Mavericks are still left on our highways ? The number of so-called cleaner air vehicles greatly outnumbers the total of older vehicles . As far as fuel economy is concerned . In one of the fellow Maverick websites , it mentions that Maverick sales jumped , during the oil crises of the Mid 70's (They get reasonable gas milage) My personal ride (albeit it is fuel injected) pulled an amazing 25mpg on my recent road trip of 1000 miles . I believe that qualifies it for current fuel economy standards. And because the fuel economy is high , of course the emissions are low (efficiancy ) PLEASE let's mail our representatives and FIGHT this . Thank You Doug |
