I havent heard anything about the ethanol, but I do know that a lot of motorcycle engines are using a ceramic/metallic coating for the cylinder liners. The coating is used in place of the traditional cast iron liners. It is much stronger than iron, therefore the liner can be made from a thinner (and lighter) material. The material is "fused electrically" directly to the aluminum iteself. Also, they wear better than cast iron liners. The down side is that they cannot be bored oversize. Wonder how long it'll take for car manufacturers to start using it?
