You didn't say what heads your using. 750 carb is about the right one. KN air filter. Fuel system, if factory stock? is screwing you. You need to change the whole fuel system. Have a bung welded in the bottom front of the tank and use #8 fitting with # aeroquip hose to filter, electric pump, and to the carb. At the carb splitter go to #6 hose.
Food for thought,I drag raced a 460 in a 3300# car. 850 holley, Pref RPM modified Dove heads and was pulling 11.20s at 118 mph. I used a holley red pump #8 hoses and died out in the top on second gear at 6200 rpms. Problem was my jets where a little to big. Right now your problem is the fuel system is to small. Before I chnage the one in my car from the factory one it would run out of fuel. When I slowed for a few minutes it would fill back up. This was also a way the factory slows cars.
With a Cleveland, unless you modied the oil system, 6000 rpms is a good point to stop at. A good hyd cam will take you as high as 6800 rpms. Just have to have the right setup, cam, heads, carb, manifold, etc.

what is your best guess why my engine basically dies at 5800 rpm's. i have a built cleveland in a 71 grabber. bored .040 over, balanced, forged pistons, electronic ignition, torker intake, bigs performance 850 dbl. pumper, 4.11 rear. lunati cam with 224/234 @ .050 536/566 lift. i don't know if i'm running out of fuel or what but when i run the car.....i could hold it in low and it will basically hold at 5900 rpm's. i think it should run to 6500-7000 no problem. i have a stock carter mechanical fuel pump and i'm wondering if i should go to a high performance electric or mechanical. any other ideas out there. post here or email. thanks for any advice, David
