hey sam,
i'll field your answer for you. someone answered the same question for me. you cannot just simply install a floor shifter. the mechanisms that operate a floor or column shift, move differently. one moves forward, the other back. i was told you could pull off a flip manuever, but that person questioned if that was a good thing to do. he suggested that the bodies of a floor and column shift C4 are not the same. my column shift does the exact same thing yours does. however, ford cars are notorious for this. i once had a floor shifted maverick, and it too would jump out of gear. ive decided that instead of converting my current to a floor shift, i am going to replace the shifter grommets instead. someone has posted those correct part numbers on this page. i think they are very inexpensive, but not very easy to install. until you get your car fixed... i suggest you do as i do, and carry a brick in your car, to put behind your wheel. (that is if your emergency brake cannot be trusted) i have a feeling that there are several on this board who experience the same defect. MT i:=i have a colum shifter on the 77 302 but I would like to go to floor shifter (the colum one shifts into gear in idile ... how hard is it .. it is better to just replace the colum..?? |
