Tranny starting to slip after 200,000 plus miles and 3 different car bodies. This tranny was originally out of a 68 Mustang with a 289 Qusetion 1, Do I have a local tranny shop (AAMCO) rebuild this tranny? OR do I buy one from someplace like Summit of Jegs? I don't think I need a race tranny but,I have been known to be hard on parts at times. When I do the rebuild or swap out, I plan on going to a larger cam and will figure on going with a highter stall speed converter. Anyone have any comments on which converters(B&M TCI or Summit) to stay away from,or like better than others? As always thanks for the help. Russ

Unless you know someone personally at AAMCO (or any other chain), I would absolutely stay away from those places. The transmissions put out by B & M are decent but a little pricey. Your best bet would be to spend some time at the local "car scene" and ask those folks for any recommendations as most of them have probably had their trannies rebuilt locally.

As for converters, Turbo Action (have one in my car now that I have had for over 6 yrs with absolutely no prolems whatsoever and their customwer service is excellent) and TCI are excellent. If you are looking for something a little less expensive B & M is a fine alternative (probably be fine for your application). Stay away from GER. The mantra "you get what you pay for" definitely holds true for converters.
