I just boughtan 500 cfm edelbrock 4 brl for my 302 I bought the adapter 2bbl to 4 bbl and as the car doesn't run need a few answers???? is the dist. vacuum port timed (no vacuum at idel or full (vacuum at idle) my old one didn't work so i don't know how to hook up the new one!!! also the vacuum hose that went to the choke pull off should I just plug that? and last I have an adapter under my old card that has a vacuum hose to it was that for power brakes??(I do have power brakes>>>>>>> I think) any one ever do this before and any thing else i need to know ???
thanks in advance
sam,
i dont know why you expect results from a 2 to 4V adapter. all your fuel still has to go through the existing 2 holes on your intake. i thought i had strongly advised you against trying this.
anyway, the only real way to make that carb work well, is to match it with a 4V intake. someone suggested you might could get a cast iron 4v manifold relativley cheaply.
i personally think you'd be better off with an edelbrock performer. if you eventually intend to juice up the internal motor, maybe you could go with a stealth or something hotter.
in any event... even if you get your new carb all plumbed up correctly.. it probably will run no better than your old 2V.
if you are gonna try to make the new carb work...
your powerbrake vacuum line (fat one, from vacuum booster) goes to the back of the carburetor, or into that plate under the carburetor. im guessing you will need to discard that plate and adapt a new one.
as for your vacuum advance.. i dont know what kind of distributer you have. i guess its electronic ignition. i would think you still have a hose coming off the vacuum advance to the one of the 2 smaller vacuum pods at the base of your new carb. otherwise you need to block them off.
your pcv valve goes to the large vacuum pod at the front of your new carb.
sorry you are having so much difficulty thus far. if you get the correct matching components and get it properly plumbed.. you will be quite happy with the results. that little 4V carb is perfect for your application.
anyhow, good luck. let us know when you get it hooked up.
