mostly, they firm up the shift, so instead of "sliding" into the next gear, a shift kit usually makes the trans jump into the next gear a lot quicker, thereby eliminating the wasted time it takes for one band/clutch to disengage and the next to apply. Most are made by modifying the valvebody to some extent, and in the case of a c4 they can be home-made with satisfactory results. I think you can even make your own manual valvebody out of a stock one. |
