Well coulda been worse,, good thing you had extinguisher!! Let me tell ya what I did stupid one time.... Was workin on an 89 Ranger 4x4,, this thing was a million miles in the air. Had a worn and abused 2.9,,, both heads were bad so I was replacing (this was not my vehicle) when put back together it would not start. I was convinced it was not getting gas. So I disconnected the line to the fuel rail. Thought I could crank it just once with the key to see if it was gettin gas. Well DUH! instant flame!!!!!! and not just a little, Whole engine compartment was on fire.. I grabbed a jug of antifreeze and put out the fire.. Not much real damage, cept I had to rebuild a couple fuel injectors.. So see Dennis... I am a real "DA" too!! LOL

I had a hood laying on the floor of the garage & was cleaning a bunch of grease off the backside of it with rags and carb cleaner. When it was done I had a pile of filthy rags and another of semi usable. Then I decided to weld up some holes. Well, the sparks jumped far enough to hit the really dirty ones & torched them off. I immediately grabbed the other pile to smother out the first pile. Now I had a very large pile of flaming rags. My first instinct was wrong so getting the hot-dogs out probably wouldn't have been a good idea either. Luckily my 3 1/2 brain cells kicked in and I grabbed the extinguisher and put it out. Just made a bunch of smoke, no damage (unless your a rag). Word of advise, Keep a fire extinguisher handy at all times. You never know when you'll need it. Some of the shows I go to require one in your possession to enter your car. A very wise rule in my opinion. This kinda blows the theory "The older you get, the wiser you get" out the window
