Jimbob, When you put the timing chain on did you verify that the marks on the cam sprocket and the crank sprocket were pointing towards each other (stabbed "straight up") This doesn't sound like a valve timing issue but rather ignition timing. When you installed the distributor did you chack to see if the rotor was pointed at the #1 tower plug on the cap? Also, double-check your plug wires. If they are routed wrong the car will act the same way. Get out that timing light! Regards,
