Hello all,
I'm doing a i6 (200) to v8 conversion. Trying to get all the parts together to get it done! Will my stock 1970 i6 200 torque converter work with my 1980 302 v8 (c4 with the correct bellhousing)? Or is it balanced differently? I realize i would end up with a higher stall.... :...........................................................= Chris as long as the mounting studs in the converter match the engine flex plate holes, your ok. Now to clear up on some points you mention. The stall speed increase will be only due to the 302's higher torque, but not that much higher. Converter balance is not 'normally' a factor unless some defect is present. The engine's flexplate and it's rotating assembly are in control of balance. Make sure that the flex plate for the 80 engine is used. A word about your trans, it was built internally to have a reasonable sevice life behind the torque produced by the 6. Now it's being asked to stand much more so expect it's life to be shortened somewhat. Good luck on the swap,Ken |
