I had an AOD in my Mustang. It worked well, but eventually I switched to a T-5 and am a lot happier with it. Without a lot of work the AOD shift quality leaves a lot to be diesired. It's more fun to drive with the 5 speed, not to mention lighter and faster.

Since you have a 3 spd already, bolting in a T-5 should be pretty easy. Find a T-5, a bellhousing adapter, and a modified crossmember. Lots easier than swapping from manual to automatic. image
