As long as your tank dosent have any rust holes you can clean it out as you suggested. I'd use a piece of chain rather than BB's cause its heaver and will do a better job of cleaning plus its easier to get out. If you have a pin hole in your tank, you can clean it with 80 grit sandpaper and seal it with JB Weld epoxy. I have used this stuff & it works great. If your tank is to far gone, You have 2 options. 1 is to find a good used tank because these tanks are not reproduced. They do reproduce the 75 to 77 tanks and are slightly larger. You will have to lengthen your tank straps to get them to fit. Also you will have to bow out your valance panel to clear the larger tank. The other option is to replace it with a Mustang tank. It is not a bolt in deal. Fabrication is required. I wrote an article on the mod and you should check it out to see if it is something you want to do. Stefan put it on his websight and the link below should take you to it. Related link: Gas Tank upgrade
