Thunderbird tailights

I got my T-Bird Tailights and one of the reflectors could use the plastic rechromed. I was told that you can clean them up real well, spray them with chrome paint and then clear paint, and they will be like new. Any thoughts on this? I was originally looking for some one to rechrome the plastic but if painting them will work, I will do that.
