Tracy; try this: take a look at the vacuum can on the distributer. See if holds vacuum. This will make the engine run at the idle timing set until the mechanical adv. comes in. Also, check the tip in nozzle. It may be too much for the engine, especially if you are running a stock cam. You can buy a track pack and all the tuning stuff for a Holley, and it isn't too much, especially if it works well. Also, check the vacuum can on the carb, and see if the spring is too loose. It may need a stiffer or slacker spring to work properly. Holleys are great, but require a bit of tuning. The track pack has an assortment of these. Hope this helps. Let us know.
