I had someone tell me that a way to add some horse power was by putting 351 heads on my 73 302 grabber...is this true? what all will i need besides the wider bolts/washers?
...................... ...The 69-70 351W heads are the ones to use. You need to use washers under the head bolts because the head holes are larger. ...There are two 351 heads. One is the 2 barrel that will raise the compression on a 73 engine from 8 to about 9.7. The other is the 4 barrel head that will raise comprssion to near 11.0. ...The casting ids are D0OZ for the 2B heads. C9OZ for the 4B heads. You also get larger valves and runners with these heads. ...If you are intending on a cam change in the future, then it would be wise to change the rocker arm studs over to the screw-in type for full adjustabiliy and use with non-rail type rocker arms and push rod guide plates. ...Do a valve bowl cleanup and have hard exhaust seats installed. ...Last pay attention to which intake gasket is used so there will not be any sealing problem with the intake manifold. ...Intake and exhaust manifolds all bolt up as with the 302 heads. ...This may be more work than you thought but is the right way to go for the best job. |
