    hi,
i have a 1970 ford maverick with a 170 3 speed. i would like to do and engine swap. i found a doner car for $150. its a 1977 4 door maverick with a 250 auto. the Qs i have is would it be worth pulling the engine and putting it in my car? if i did that would there be a noticeable difference or would it be more work then its worth. Or should i just save up for a 302 swap? its my daily driver so im not looking to make it a drag car (at least not yet) but i would like to have a little more power. also would my 3 speed bolt up to the 250?
im also going to swap the rear axle, front disk brakes, and powersting.
i would appreaciate any thoughts or advice that you guys might have.
    thanks.

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
it will make a big difference, but not as big as if u went for that 302, but those sixes are great motors and last a long time not to mention the gas mileage. IIRC the 3speed wont swap over since the 250 uses the same tranny as the 302's,but i've been out of the maverick loophole so i'm not sure. also check out fordsix.com

i wouldn't say it's worth it, the power you can make from a 302 far outweighs the power you can make with a six. sixes are great motors but you'll spend a boat load trying to make 200 hp, where the 302 considered low...i was debating on building my six for about a year, than i finally decided to go for the 8.

again depends on how you build it.... you can put an AOD behind the 302 and gear it to be faster out of the hole but still have enough of a low rpm at freeway speeds to get around 20mpg. im sure you could set up the straight six to get about the same. all depends on how you build it and how you drive it. a four banger will get crappy mileage if you go from stop to stop wide open.;)
