I kept my top loader that was behind my Cleveland from my 72 Gran Torino and it is a long tail shaft/housing version - anyone know if it is possible to swap the tail housings and shaft out for the shorter version's parts so I can run a longer driveshaft?

You'll need to completely disassemble it. The tailshaft is the rear half of the mainshaft. That'll have to be swapped out for a shorter shaft. If it needs a rebuild then now's the time to do it. The biggest cost will be the price of a new shaft, or not, if you can get a good used shaft. Contact David Kee www.4speedtoploaders.com He has new shafts.

I used a wide ratio 390 box Behind a 1971 Boss 351 engine in My 67 mustang with out any problems! I had a Pilot bearing built that was thick enough to reach the shorter shaft! I was told it wouldn't work , My Car Run 11.50 at 115 MPH for two seasons at the Drag strip with that setup! and I would not think twice about doing it again 1
