I have a manual steering box and pitmin arm off a 72 maverick. Before I can ask my question I need some terminology and naming help. On the passenger side of the car is the unit the pitmin arm connects to. What is this called? Is this the idler arm?

Now my question is does that piece need to be replaced if someone is swapping from power to manual steering? My car is a 75 with a 302. It had power steering but the manual pitmin arm threaded end is too short and can not have a nut on the end.

Anyone know? The details are. 1972 steering components on a 1975 car.

Yes, its the idler arm. 70-74 and 75-77 use different center links and this cause for a different idler arm. They were 3 different idler arms...70-72. 73-74 and 75-77. The 75-77 pitman arm is also different than the 70-74 pitman

Just FYI: the Pitman arm connects to the center (or drag) link. which connects to the idler arm on the passenger side.

If you get all the parts from the same year you should be able to transplant them onto your car.
