In a recent post, a discussion came up about the emissions canister.
I have a 1970 Maverick, that the owner gave me the original gas tank that leaked because of pin-holes on the bottom. He replaced with a tank that "Fit", that he got from an auto wrecker. This tank has the emissions part on the tank. Because he didn't have the tubing nor the canister to hook it up, he covered the emissions out-let with a "home made" gasket and cover to seal it from leaking gas.

I installed a canister and tubing that I got from a 1971 Comet. When I took off the "home-made" cover on the gas tank, I see 4 or 5 (what appears to be) rubber stoppers in holes. I have no idea if that is stock.

Does anyone have a picture or can describe what is under the plastic piece that the rubber hose from the tubing connects to this emission valve on the gas tank looks like?
    Thanks.

Well...kind of. I see the 4 small holes in the actual "vent" part (upper left). Mine had rubber stoppers that loosely fit in. (Like the rubber stoppers for test tubes (remember high school chemistry lab?). That manila colored thing around the gas tank in your picture - I have no idea what that is, or what it does.

The one time I ever saw a gas tank with the emissions, there was just a plastic cover over the vent assembly, with a short rubber hose that came out, that connected to the steel pipe - that ran to the vapor canister.

All the manila stuff you see on top of the tank used to be INSIDE the tank.

Sounds like yours got broke and somebody put rubber stoppers in it.

    Now, we are getting somewhere..
In the upper left corner of your picture is the "outlet". (Same as mine - though there are 4 rubber stoppers in the holes on mine. What does the assembly that the 3/8" rubber hose connects too, look like? The one time that I did see a "real" gas tank, there was a plastic cover over the assembly, so I couldn't see what was underneath.
    Thanks!

I do not know. I have only seen the tanks with the plastic cover on as well.
