Hi, my name is Max. I am looking at buying this Maverick. it is a 1976 with the stallion package. it has a 302 swapped into it but was originally a 200 I6. the car is super dirty, as it is a barn find. but it does run, drive and stop good. there is little rust but like I said it is SUPER dirty. I Know you guys probably know a lot more about mavericks than I do, so is there anything I need to look out for? anything I need to know? thanks a million.
Like any old car......rust is a big concern. More of a concern for a Maverick as very little is made in the aftermarket to repair this rust.
where is some major locations that rust develops? there is already some in the rear wheel wells but it isn't bad there.
From the picture you posted, I see that it needs quarter panels, and outer wheel houses. It is also all the rust you CAN'T see. If you have to pay somebody to make these repairs....that can get expensive. I see it also needs a headliner. I think you will be amazed what all a car needs when it has sat for so long. If you have no experience in working on old cars...I would suggest you pass.
Welcome to the site from northeast Ohio!!! You did not indicate what the price is for the Maverick? If you are just starting your search, I would keep looking for a car in better condition. Saves money in the long run.
from Northeast Pennsylvania Pour a bucket of water down through the grill openings behind the hood and see if any of the water comes out from under the dash and on to the floor - if so, your cowls are rusted through
