I am thinking about putting 17" magnum 500 style wheel on my 72 grabber with Granada disc brake upgrade. Anyone have these wheels. Any problems with offset, rubbing, fitment?

17 inch wheels should be no problem around the calipers. A 14x6 is OK, but a 14x7 gets uncomfortably close, add the extra diameter of a 15 and they clear. You still may need to look into clearance in other areas, though.
You can easily fit 17" rims on your car. With the help of information from this forum, I was able to get 17x8 rims, with 4.5 back spacing on all four corners with 245/45/17 in the front and 275/40/17 in the rear. Stock rear suspension and the front springs have one coil removed.
You want a 4" to 4-1/4" backspace on the front, and if you are running the stock Maverick rearend, a 3-3/4" to 4" backspace. I wouldn't go any more than 4-1/4" on front or rear.
This all depends on how wide of a wheel you have. On a 17x8 4 1/2 BS cuts it close to the fender lip on a lowered car. 4 3/4 to 5 in on an 8in wheel should fit nicely. They both clear the Upper A arm. I currently have 17x8 with 4.5 BS on a 235/45/17's. I bolted on a 17x9 rim with 5in BS and it cleared the upper arm but it sticks out past the fender lip. 17x8 17x9, photo doesn't show much but I did try it out
I have the same rims, tires and suspension and mine are real close to the lip. If the are sat a little lower, it would hit the lip. I wish I would have done 4.75 or 5. My Wilwoods didn't change the dimensions. Micah
A 4.45 or 5" will hit the inside frame rail and leafspring on the rear if the stock rearend is being used. When I said 4" to 4.5" on the front, I was assuming a 7-inch wide wheel. Definitely would not work with an 8" wheel up front.
I'm a little late to the party, but I want to run 17" wheels on my 74 Maverick and I have a set of 245/45/17 take off tires from a Mustang that are virtually brand new. I know have to run 8" wide wheels for the tires, I just want to make sure I get the back spacing right. So if I get 17x8 with 4.5 bs I should be able to run my 245/45's in all 4 corners correct.?
If youre lowered at all, you may run into the sidewall rubbing the fender lip. Im running similar tire size and lowered and I had to roll the fenders in order to not damage tires.
I plan on lowering the front 1" with springs and that's it, and I figured I would have to roll my fenders. I'm more worried about rubbing on my upper control arms, and possibly the leafs from what I've heard.
It should work just fine. You should not have to roll the fenders. If anything, you would rub the inner side, not the fender side. I would not go any wider on the front, and would not go any deeper on the rear backspace unless you plan to run spacers. You might consider a 17x7" in the front with a 235 tire.
Why do you think you have to run 8" wheels, tires will fit 7" wheels just fine . Your problem will be getting wheels with the right backspace or plan on using some spacers
