I ran across this collection of 1970's Ford Commercials. There are several different ones for the Maverick and the Grabber Maverick. Did the black paint on the rear panel and the back of the spoiler only last through 70 or were the Grabbers still painted that way in 1971 (i.e. on the spoiler too and not just the tail panel)? I had a deck lid and end caps I pulled off of a Grabber Green car that was painted black on the back of the spoiler. - Matt

    Cool!

Just the '70 Maverick Grabber's had the entire tail panel painted black.

I thought I read that the tail light trim stayed shiny and the black just went to the bottom lip of the trunk lid and the little lip on the end caps I wonder how they really came

That is too cool. I don't remember ever seeing the '70 Grabber ad before.

    Thanks for posting these.

Here is a pic of an original 70 rear - the only things not right are the gas cap and the Maverick script is missing. The original cap is the deluxe.

Found a picture after the car was washed and the gas cap was put back on. The Maverick script was sitting in the trunk. It had fallen off at some point but the original owner saved it.

Often those commercials were made of prototypes before actual production began so it's not unusual to depict things that were changed/added/deleted...

There's one for a '69 Cobra Fairlane that has at least four or five inaccuracies, biggest being one filmed had red interior that was not available in Cobra... In actuality that car was a '68 Torino GT that exterior had been updated to be a '69 Cobra(the '68 shifter was also shown)... Also grill blackout was incorrect and no '69 Cobra used the cartoon snake decals that were std in '70 & '71... All production '69 Cobras used the chromed snakes that were used on Shelby Mustangs...

That is what I was talking about, but you might have made it more clear.

Paul, your car didn't have the black pinstripe around the lower edge of the 1/4 extensions and the lower part of the decklid?

If five stewardesses can assemble that many pieces of our cars in a matter of minutes, what does that say about us?
