The V8 was available approx three months into '71 model run, well before '72 models. Often writers look at introduction specs and don't check mid year changes/additions.

I didn't know P/S wasn't avail in first year, can anyone verify that?

Checked the Armchair Estimator option price lists for late '69(Incl first '70 Mav) and 1970, no P/S.
    Included on '71 list.

If P/S had been a option, Maverick may have come a lot closer to matching first year Stang sales.

May have been closer to four months but really doesn't make a difference.

Peaking at Paul's '71 VIN list, first v8 Maverick was 149xxx(49,xxx build) and 47 entries from list beginning. At that point the F codes become plentiful.

Note I'm referring to KC builds.

Interestingly the first V8 Comet is #4 on list & less than 10,000 builds from beginning of production.. I dunno if that means Comets were built with V8 before Maverick or their production began at a later point.

Isn't listed in either the '69 or '70 Armchair price guide or as option in the '70 Maverick dealer album. Possibly added at mid year.

In master parts catalogue, there were power install kits available.

    Found it! Mid year option.

In the 70½ Estimator, print Dec '69(incl Fairlane based 70½ Falcon), P/S is listed on option list for Maverick. The 250 I6 was also available, but no mention of Grabber package. 1970½maverickarmsnip1.JPG

    There's also a 3:20 ratio listed.

Those are the 7¼" rear ends originally used in Falcon, & early 6 cyl Mustang. AFAIK were not used with 250 and I believe dropped completely in '71.
