In Venezuela, the Maverick was introduced in 1971. That's why the '73 model was presented as the '74, and so on. This is the 4-door model, introduced in 1972.
Looks great. I have a 73 4 door, six , auto. 40 thousand miles, no rust but was left outside so paint is very faded. Have old narrow tires. Want to upgrade tires. Did you need any kind of spacers behind the wheels to keep your larger tires from rubbing?
Thank you! The original tires were 6.95/14, the actual tires are 195/75/R14 (much better). The original rims are 7" wide, don't know if it helps. The car doesn't need spacers.
In Venezuela, the 2- and 4-door Maverick was offered in the basic model with 4-lug wheels and the luxury model with 5-lug wheels, which measure 7 inches wide versus 6 inches wide for the 4-lug wheels.
I can't see 6.95/14 tires on a seven- or six-inch wheel. Would spread sidewalls till they looked like a balloon.
Wheel width is measured between the inside of the beads on the rim. Mavericks were not getting 7-inch wheels from the factory, not even for Venezuela...
