I got my new master cylinder and front brake lines in from Rockauto this week. I ordered them to fit a 74 Mav with disc brakes. Now the problems begin: The lines will not fit the master cylinder so I'm guessing I'll have to get some adapter fittings, probably no big deal. I let that rest for now, go to putting the new rubber lines to the calipers. They fit the caliper end fine, but don't want to start on the hard lines....so I take one of the old disc lines and it doesn't fit the Mav hard line either. So I take the old drum brake line and it fits the hard line perfectly........so now what? Do I need some kind of adapter fitting to mate the two, or do I need to find a set of disc brake Maverick hard lines? I'm afraid if I was to try and cut them off and put a new fitting on, that will be too short, and I don't own a double flaring tool, either. So, anybody have any suggestions?
Its prob going to be easier to make new steel lines,,, If you have a flaring tool,,, you can make the new steel lines,, just take the new brake hose to the part store,,, Auto-zone or Advanced auto parts,, and find a male that will thread into te new front brake hoses,, My suggestion is while your at the parts store pick up a small tubing bender,,, it will make factory like bends in your lines,,, it will work great and doesnt take that long,,, Both sides give or take an hor or so....
You can get new lines here. Scroll to page 6 and last half of the page. http://www.rightstuffdetailing.com/2004_pdf/mustang.pdf
Thanks Terry. Looks like another $65 that I didn't know I was going to have to spend. Oh well, it's only money, right?
If you do not want to replace the lines you can buy fittings that will adapt the threads to the correct size. I had to do that with my brothers car and it works fine. Advance has them, but I had to go to Main Auto,a more specialized parts store here in Dayton. It would be less expensive and less time.
