if im not mistaken, i have read that the 351w have a 28 oz imbalance, which is the same as 289's and older 302 engines. if this is true, i should be able to use a 289 flywheel on a 302.... correct?

I just looked at the summit catalog. All their flywheels just say for sbf. So i would assume you can. But i've been wrong before.:)

I dont think 351 dampers are the same as 289/302 dampers since the 351 crank is heavier(1/2 inch more stroke and bigger bearing journals)

Same balancer and flywheel for 70- up 351W, 351C and 1970-early 80's 302. They're completely interchangeable as to imbalance factor.

I believe I read the same about imbalances, all windsors should be 28 oz. All 80 or 81 and earlier 289s and 302s should be 28 oz also. As far as flywheels and tooth count there are a few different ones.

you should be good to go. If mine wasn't so fun to drive I would have done pulled the 351 out to redo a few things. It's probably a good idea to notch your shock towers or your headers will look like mine. It seems to run good but know how it can breathe like that.

I know the motor looks rough, it's been in there probably 10 or so years. Some of the previous owners stuff.:hmmm:

    pics didnt work.....

but im going to run a 5.0/T5 for the time being untill i get my 351w built, so ive got plenty of time to think about it and gather what i need. i'll just run the 351 with a 289 flywheel, T5 bell and clutch, which will be hooked to the T5 untill i can afford a better trans. and my shock towers are already notched so that's one less thing i have to worry about. i dont that as soon as i bought the car :)

I'm running a t5 bell with my windsor and the old style clutch linkage and fork, just has to bolt an early style fork pivot to it. works great

that's cool. ill run my T5 with my windsor for a bit but it wont hold up to the torque that im going to have so ill have to take it easy untill i can upgrade the transmission. i also plan to run a cable clutch setup:thumbs2:, im not a fan of the old linkage setup :16suspect
