Went to the races today. Got rained out at 4pm. I will be going back tomorrow. I got there at 8:30 am. So, made the rounds through the pits. Maverick people are the greatest. They are more than willing to talk about there cars & what they've done to them. Of course, they are all looking for parts. Duh!! Aren't we all? I found 3 Mavericks. The first was Art. He has a blue 70 Maverick & runs Pro/Gas. Has a big block 460, special crank & bored .080 making it 530 cu in. His bracket can't run faster than 9.90. I watched him run 9.91, which put him in the #1 spot. Awesome!!! I talked to him afterward, he thinks he has it dialed in now. Duh!! You think?
Then I talked to Randy. He has a red 72 Maverick & runs Pro. Has a 351 cu in. He's had the car since high school & put it together with his paperoute money. I watched him run a 12.35. Impressive.
Then I spotted a Brown Maverick. Owner wasn't around. I'll try to talk to him tomorrow. I did see him run a 12.37. Impressive also.
Then the wheelstanders came out. One was a firetruck, the other a pickup. Both ran on two wheels @ over 100mph in the 12's. WooHoo!!! I love those things....
And Bucky Austin was there. I forgot he was from here, in the Northwest (Tacoma). Runs in the funny car class.
    I've posted some pictures. Enjoy!!!!

I was shocked at one of my local drag strip to see 4other mavs besides mine. I also got to shoot the breeze with a couple of them. The three I meet seemed like real car guys and were without a doubt true maverickers. The fastest one ran a high 8(no idea on specs never got to meet owner) the second fastest ran mid tens, my mav running 12.90s, the next was 14.20, 4th was a low 15 sec, and the slowest was an all original stock 71 302 3 speed running mid 16s. A nice mix from radical full chassis car to all original stock. Needless to say I was in heaven. I informed the three I meet about this site and the MCCI so maybe we will have some new poeple here and in the club. I also talked up the '05 Roundup. The Maverick has for sure come full circle in the new millenum. Even the chevy guys are giving thumbs up and compliments at the track. I only heard one or two negative comments the 3 times I have been out to the track or cruising this year. I remember back in the early 90's just about everybody was insulting me and my maverick. I believe the amount of mavs at the track out numbered the early camaros and any brand ford except the late model mustangs. TO me that speaks volumes. SOrry to hijack your thread. Glad to hear you had fun but what I really want to know is what did you and your sweet ride run???????? Keep on mavericking man.....

Oh yea your pics will not load up for me................

Sounds like the Maverick is regaining popularity at the track again.

Don, I am sure with the name Bucky, Becky is not the worst thing he has been called!

Sorry...I'll see what I can do about the pictures. Didn't know that was the way it was going to come up. I thought it would just let you look without all the info.

Pics should work now....My fingers were going so fast I hit the e key instead of the u key on Bucky. LOL I corrected it. I didn't run my Comet this weekend. The best I've gotten with it, on street tires was a 14.42. I'll run later this year. They have over a 150 entries this weekend (mad house)....so, just a spectator this weekend.

Talked with Art again today. The 70 Maverick is a Father & son project. His son James is the driver. They won there first elimination round. Then I had to go. Told him to email me with the results. He assured me that he would. I hope they do well. Thanks Art! Was a pleasure talking with you. Hope to see you & the Maverick at one of our car shows....He said he would visit our website. I've posted a picture with the hood off (nice big block)....

Well, Art told me they broke out in the next round. The other guy didn't. So, it was time to put it in the trailer & go home. I told him to let know when they were going to the track again. It is a very nice Maverick.....Thumbs up!!!

    Great pics Merc!
I've done a few upgrades (alum. heads and Crane roller) and am interested in seeing how much it's improved. Hopefully I'll run one of the test and tune days (wed. or friday). I'm planning a dry run and a nos run, but my old Mickey Thompson SS tires have hardened up (bought them in 94'). I'm hoping a little Tracrion V compound will soften 'em back up.

Shoreline area. Had the 73 since 1982 (250 dollar high school car full of dents with tired 250 inline..quart of oil per week.....306 now with Power Shot 125hp nos). I was always laughed at back then, but now people gawk at it when I drive around. It's no where near the quality of some of the guys on here, but I get a kick out of it...I guess that's all that matters.
It's hard to phantom, but I haven't had the rig down at Pacfic Raceway since All Ford Day back in 94 (SIR back then). Less weight now because of removal of monster safety bumper....installed a phony fiberglass early style lightweight....dangerous because I now have minimal front end protection. If I get my photos developed....I'll try and post 'em up.

PS: How is the new launch pad....is it stickier than the old surface?

Small world. I work in the Shoreline area. I work for Midas on Aurora & 130th. I usually drive one of the Mavericks or the Comet. Stop by someday & chat...
Yes, the new launch pad is great. Been out there with some of the MCCI members & there Mavericks. We have an awesome time. I'll let you know when we're going, usually on a Wed or Fri. We wait for street legals night.....

You're kidding. I bring my daily driver Topaz there for mufflers. You probably have worked on it before!
Heck, if you guys did headers, I'd bring in the Comet and have you true up the passenger side that has warped.
Keep me posted on any further developments.

Well, I did try again in 1996. Drove 35 miles and waited in line until they told us it was rained out.
