My wife told me that she will buy my carpeting for me for Christmas so I have a few questions for the masses My Maverick is a 69.5 but I grafted a 72 tunnel into it so I assume I can simply order the carpet for a 72 now. I know the smaller 69.5 tunnel was always a factor in ordering carpet but other than that, are there any other differences between a 69.5 and a 72 floor that I may have to deal with? Loop or cut pile? What are the opinions on the difference? Are these carpets all made in one place like our quarter panels so it don't matter who sells it, or do I have to careful who I buy it from? Thanks as always, Bob :Handshake
I got mine from Ardvark Motors (varkmotors.com) on e-bay motors, ACC is the brand of it, I chose the cut pile nylon royal blue, they seem to have a good color selection, loop pile is factory correct for the early years. I have some Chrome Yellow I will make you a deal on lol.
That's good to know because Ardvark Motors was the carpet that I was looking at. It was just under 140.00 with free shipping. Isn't cut pile the more plush of the 2 choices? I read that cut pile only uses 14 ounces of material per square yard but loop uses 24 ounces per square yard - you would think then that the loop might be the more plush unless the extra material is just used to tighten up the carpet Does chrome yellow go good with Hugger Orange
Yes I think the cut pile is the more plush carpet, I called the guy from Ardvark, his name is George Sheets and spoke with him, he sent out samples of all the color that I wanted (blue) and I picked from those, real nice guy to deal with, as for the Chrome Yellow going with Hugger Orange......Prolly not, But just add some red dye and ya got orange at half price!!!
I'll give George a call on Monday sometime The Hugger orange is for the body but black is the color of the interior. I'd be afraid in a few years that screaming yellow might start coming out again if I dye it LOL!
When I was down you house, didn't I see shag carpeting on your back deck - right under the dingle balls?
Loop is factory correct. I think cut pile is easier to clean. Dirt comes right up with a vacuum. I think different carpet for a 1969 1/2 - 1970, because of the transmission tunnel, is a "wive's tale". I have never seen it, and I don't see a company even offering it. It is my opinion that all carpet out there is the same, except for 2-door or 4-door.
And the little bobble head dog , but you missed the lava lamp that plugs into the cigarette lighter.:bananaman
I can really see the big tunnel differences when I removed the small one from my 69.5 and then grafted in the one from the 72. My Hurst V-Gate shifter stuck through the original tunnel through a massive hole in the drivers side surface of the tunnel right next to my leg. Now with the 72 tunnel installed I can see that the same shifter will come through the top of the tunnel, towards the drivers side - a lot more top surface to the 72. I can see now why the 69.5-70 owners had to pad their molded carpet or why it bunched up on them so much - lack of a large enough tunnel
I have no doubt that the tunnel itself is difference. I have seen THAT difference myself. What I doubt is the carpet companies offereing a different carpet for the 1969.5 and 1970 cars. I have seen posted on here and other places that the CARPET is made different. I don't see that being true by any of the reproduction carpet companies.
