My husband is fixing a 1972 maverick he bought this summer and is need of a gas tank. Does anyone know if he can interchange from some other vehicle or where we might find one. I would like to surprize him with one if I could find it. Thanks for the help.

Hi Gas tanks for the 72 models are not reproduced so I would say to use Mavaholics Idea and use the mustang one. He has a detailed instructions posted and it looks like it would be relatively easy modifications. Also frees up space for twin exhaust and as a bonus you can get it with a drain plug.

Personally, I would convert to mustang tank. But if you want to stick with stock, I have a couple of good ones. Email me if interested.

Thanks for the help. Where can I find these instructions. I am new to this website and am not sure I am using it right to answer you back.
    Thanks again.

I do not have a maverick. I work at a auto parts store and am looking for more information about the mustang gas tank install. This is for a 1972 maverick customer. Could not open the link by mavaholic on the installation of the tank. Any help would be great.

Just order them a Spectra Preminum F30, it's for a 76 Mavericks and fits with less work.

Yup! Also get them a set of 76 gas tank straps. Parts stores carry them as well.

No need to buy new straps just but longer carriage bolts.

As long as it has a single exhaust there should be no problem. Its a bolt on deal.

The vapor valve and rubber grommet is different on the early tanks. Auto Krafters sells the later year valve and grommet or you might still be able to find them at your local Ford service center.
