hello all! new to this forum and have been searching on rear frame rail replacement. mine are rusted so bad that the leaf springs have broke out of the frame. what has every one done to repair this problem that has had it. i am looking at the parts from a 64 -66 mustang as they look so close that they should work. any help would be appreciated.
Both of my rear frame rails only had some surface problems. The inside surfaces had that golf ball effect so I made up inside cover plates out of 1/8 inch steel. I bolted them on through the old tie down plate holes and then was able to weld them solid. I'm not using leaf springs anymore so I used this as a chance to cover up the spring hanger holes too.
If you want to drive about 2 hours west I have a good set of rear frame rails from the front spring hangers back. With trunk floor and all. If you need anything else I might have that too.
How is the rest of the car? If the rest of the car is just as rusty...or worse....you might be better off finding another car. I see lots of rust free cars for sale on here, on ebay, and on craigslist.

I found that the early Mustangs, and also the early Falcon/Comet, width measurements between front and rear frame rails to be different than the Maverick. I used an early Falcon MII front cradle so I learned this first hand but it was workable. But what about the shape of the complete early Mustang frame rail from front to back? I'm sure that we would be asking for a lot for it to just fit into place but has anyone compared them side to side to see if they are tweekable? (is that a real word? LOL) I guess if someone wanted to invest in one early Mustang frame rail, we would know for sure. I would do it but I no longer need one.
OK, I just looked at an early Mustang reproduction rear frame rail at CJ Pony Parts at this link - http://www.cjponyparts.com/product.asp?pn=M3601L 272.00 is a lot of money to purchase one to just test fit to a Maverick. I didn't realize it would be that much. Maybe someone could find an early Mustang that is scrap and get a rear frame rail out of it to check to see how close it is to a Maverick.
Call these people and get a quote. Their Mustang frame rails are only $238 and they also make custom frame rails http://autoweldchassis.com/spec.ivnu
We still don't know if they can be made to fit or not. Pictures would certainly help. Where are you located and how much would you need for what you have?
since they wont let me post a reply with a link. check out mustangsplus.com and go to sheet metal in catagories. and then go to frame components and then check out the 65-70 rear frame rails for $35. and let me know what you think.
