I have a auto 1972 comet that a want to change to a manuel. :how many gears should i go to, how much $$$ am i looking at and how hard of a job will it be. Iv never done this and want to learn how, + a muscle car just isnt right as an auto tran Thanks!!!!
The simplest option is to go to a 4 speed from an old stang. You will need a bell housing...a flywheel...a starter for a std shift trans set up.you can use your exhisting driveshaft and trans mount this way.Clutch disc/pressure plate and throw out bearing. Now for the hard to get parts (not that hard but you will have to hunt a bit) Clutch peadal set up and mount bracket...clutch Z bar (equalizer bar) available new from Autokrafters)clutch pedal to Z bar rod...Z bar frame side mount and engine side ball mount.Clutch Z bar to clutch fork push rod. Not to mention the 4 speed trans. The 5 speed (T-5) swap is a popular one as well but requires more involved parts/set up and installation.
