Auto to manuel trans conversion questions

    I have a auto 1972 comet that a want to change to a manuel.
    :how many gears should i go to, how much $$$ am i looking at and how hard of a job will it be. Iv never done this and want to learn how, + a muscle car just isnt right as an auto tran

    1972 Maverick 2 door.Original V-8 3 spd std shift.Also a 72 one owner Sprint sporting a 351 Windsor
    The simplest option is to go to a 4 speed from an old stang.You will need a bell housing...a flywheel...a starter for a std shift trans set up.you can use your exhisting driveshaft and trans mount this way.Clutch disc/pressure plate and throw out bearing.
    Now for the hard to get parts (not that hard but you will have to hunt a bit)
    Clutch peadal set up and mount bracket...clutch Z bar (equalizer bar) available new from Autokrafters)clutch pedal to Z bar rod...Z bar frame side mount and engine side ball mount.Clutch Z bar to clutch fork push rod.
    Not to mention the 4 speed trans.
    The 5 speed (T-5) swap is a popular one as well but requires more involved parts/set up and installation.
