Just finished putting in the passenger front coil spring back on. Noticed the coil insulator on top is NOT in the correct position. :-( This spring was way harder to get in than the driver side. Besides me being picky, and thinking I was already lucky just getting the spring in without killing myself, does it really matter? It is on the spring, just not in the correct position....
Sounds like you are doing this without a spring compressor if you are struggling with it. If that is the case, head down to Autozone and use their tool rental program. With it you can position all the pieces and let of the tension when you have it where you want it
Nope, I was using a spring compressor. I tried 3 times on the passenger side and gave up. I compress the compressor all the way. I had to spin the coil to get it fit and that is must be with it slid off a little.
Wow, sounds like fun then! I guess I'll get to see what you are up against this summer as I assemble my suspension, right now I have 4x4's in there to hold it up and those went in easy!!
With a tool that compresses spring to point it just sets back in place, not a issue... I didn't have any problem with insulators on my Comet and I've had two different sets of springs installed...
I had a similar issue doing my spring insulators on the drivers side. I had a pretty ruff time getting it in the correct position. I wound-up removing spring a few times to get the insulator in the proper position. I didn't think about taping it to the spring. I think the longer (taller),springs make getting the spring in the saddle more difficult.
Probably should have taped it. These were stock springs but I did change spring perches. I am guessing I just didn't get the right combination/position of the compressor this time. BTW the Scott Drake perches dont look like roller percher's but they act like one You can spin the bushing all the way around.
