Speedometer cable hookup

    My speedometer went out yesterday. I think its a loose cable. I know one end is hooked into the instrumet cluster. Where does the other end hook too so I can look for it. :huh:

    71 Comet GT with 302 and C4.

    take the bolt out of the ...hold down...bracket and pull the cable out of the trans. there should be a...plastic gear...held on with a ..."c"...clip.
    pull on the ...gear...if it pulls the ...inner cable...out...the cable is broken...if not check the ...teeth... on the gear. turn the gear to see if the cable is free...look at the speedo and the needle should be ...jumping...if not, go to the cluster.
    check it to see that it is ...locked...into the inst. cluster...
