hey all, i just picked up a Holley Red fuel pump and it was a little bigger than i expected it to be so i am having problems finding good place to mount it. where have y'all mounted yours? I'm trying to find a spot close to the tank yet under it and it doesn't look like i have any places to do that. any help would be great! post pictures too if you happen to have some. thanks very much!
Go low, on the frame (not body or fender panel). mount on rubber grommets. It is a noisy little pump. Here is mine when I first installed it (actually second time, with grommets, to quiet it down a bit).
Yes, that is the frame rail near the left rear shackle. When I had it mounted directly to the frame, the pump would cavitate when I got down around 1/4 tank, and the already noisy pump just multiplied in loudness. So I hung it from some drop-down brackets and isolated the pump from the frame by using rubber grommets. It is pretty much silent now. I can barely hear it light up before I start the car, but I can hear the different tone when the fuel system reaches full operating pressure (about 2-3 seconds after I turn key).
I, was a lot younger back then, mounted my holley blue in the trunk of the 71 to a bracket I had a friend weld to drivers trunk lid hinge pillar.. so ya the pump had to suck vertical from the tank.. but it never gave me any issues... now the noise... lol.. that was insane.. but I loved it..a plus was you could always tell when you were running out of fuel from the sound
lol i ended up mounting it close to where scooper has his but on the body instead. i know he told me not to but I'm pretty happy with how its working. not too loud for me i can hardly hear it at all
I ran mine attached to sheet metal for a couple years. Worked fine, but loud. And louder when I got below 1/4 tank. That is the main reason I moved it to the frame and isolated it with rubber.
Yeah it is a little loud. Not too bad though definitely not louder then my exhaust. The grommets seemed to help, thanks for that tip by the way!
