I see what you got now, except for the wiring and swapping the pulley out the 3g should a drop in unit. I'm going to pick it up tonight and see if it fits in there and if so then ill swap the pulleys over on it. Can someone answer this for me..... What is the real difference between the 1g and 3g I know everyone rants about how good they are and much worth the upgrade, but what's the real difference
Internal solid state regulator = more performance, less heat, longer life Internal fan shrouded in case = better cooling, longer life Bias ply tires did the job, but radials are just so much better.
Hey sam, let us know how it fits. I've heard some bracket mods may be required but that's just what I heard.
Yea I'm going with the 3g if It fits, ill let yall know what happens and take some pictures. Has anyone done a serpentine belt swap? I know its kind of off topic but I'm almost thinking if its not going to cost too much do it now instead of swapping pulleys, the motor is right now a 289 ( getting it running for my dad he will need it back in a year but building a 88 302 40 over for when the time arises) all I'm running is water pump and alt.
The unit I am using has internal fan, no bracket issues. They have them in both belt drives. My unit is what's called "small case/frame" and less expensive then the PM unit in this thread. FWIW it has performed flawless. http://www.qualitypowerauto.com/catalog.php?item=17&catid=45&ret=catalog.php%3Fcategory%3D45
Alright guys here as some pictures of the fitment. looks like the plug will in on the inside towards the water pump but shouldn't be an issue. I'm going to go to the local parts store tomorrow and get them to swap the pulleys out for me. looks like if you want a 3G alternator upgrade from your local parts store this is the one for you in both 95 amp and 130 amp. I'm going to keep track of the pictures thru the install, and try to keep up with pictures along the way and make a little tech page on the swap, if anyone has a wiring diagram to help with this would be awesome. ( sorry for the mess shes been sitting for almost 2 years and doing alot of work under the hood)
I think it looked like my old alternator had the shaft that you needed the tool to hold it still but it didn't got them swapped over perfect and dropped it in the maverick and need to get a inch shorter belt along with space the alt out about 1/8-3/16inch to line up with my water pump and crank. How would I do that??
Yea that's what I'm thinking i got some shims around here somewhere to fine tune it to get it closer. I'll check it out tomorrow when I have more time thanks guys
