I did a search and found some things about aftermarket springs, but i'm having a heck of a time sourcing stock Leaf spring shackle bushings for my 75 maverick. I can find the ones for earlier models (70-73) no problem... Mine are utterly destroyed and i need a (preferably cheap) solution. Any advice/solutions?? Edit: I found an entire shackle and bushings on rock auto by ACDelco part# 45G13046 Is this my only option? They don't sell the bushings alone? Thanks -Phil
Ford Master Parts catalog shows the 1970 model having bushings which are different from the 1971-1977, Parts catalog list those as being the same part number.
Interesting, someone else on the site stated that 70-72 were different from 73-77. So the question is, which catalog is correct?? The poster was rthomas771 "The Master Parts Catalog shows 70-72 rear bushing the same, C4DZ 5781-A and 73-77 the same, D4DZ 57881-A. The front bushing is the same part number on all Mavericks C4DZ 5781-C. You will need 8 piece kit for the rear and 2 piece kit for the front to change all of your bushings."
Sorry I didn't mean to question the validity of you or your manual, I was just curious about the differences in the Catalogs. I bet he just saw the "73-77" part and grouped them incorrectly in the post. Thank you for the info! I have one more question, I think my shackles are aftermarket heavy duty ones, I can't find any like them online, I'll upload a picture to see if that's the case.
They are very close to it...I'm getting a loud clunking over bumps I can't replicate when the car is parked...I was wondering the same thing. I may cut off the center section and move it down lower
Yes, those look homemade. Car was probably experiencing axle wrap from weak leaf springs thus the reason for still hearing the clunk sound..... As Larry stated, I would replace those...JMO. Also, since those appear to be homemade, there is no assurance new "Maverick" bushings will fit those.
Indeed... I canceled the order I placed for the bushings and will order new shackles. They may have also attempted to raise the car slightly in the rear, I see new shackles are 4" center hole to center hole, these are around 4.75" It has traction bars on the rear, could these cause any noises over bumps? This is my first vehicle with leaf springs, so sorry for the newbie questions.
Looks to me like the noise is coming from the H section of your improvised shackle hitting the frame rail as the spring compresses. Gotta agree with Larry, that setup looks pretty scary..
This isn't the first thing I've found that's scary...there were many things the previous owner did that were downright dangerous, and it's taken me months just to fix all the mistakes he's made
