I just noticed the smell of antifreeze today when I went to the store and came back.. I opened the hood and the hose that's supposed to goto the overflow bottle was gone and the radiator was leaking antifreeze out the top of the radiator where the hose WAS to goto the overflow bottle. The cap looks old. No TEMP light came on or anything. could I have a bad cap? or could it be something more serious?

    Thanks!
    Chaz

I would start with the radiator cap. Mavericks did not come with a antifreeze recovery system like today's cars.

You could have a cap for an overflow system or a weak or worn cap. The cap for reservoir systems will have two different pressure ratings. The original style Mav cap only has 1.

The Radiator on mine has the little hose bib by the cap and had a overflow bottle when I got the car. The cap has a flip latch .

I'd run a new hose to the overflow and put a new cap on it.

I know it has been awhile since this conversation started, but in the event of adding a resovoir system and needing a new radiator cap what would be the 2 cap pressures you'd be looking for?

I believe my cap is 17lbs. This is just recalling from top of my head.

Forego the "flip latch" radiator cap.. Go with at least a 16 pound unit that doesn't have the "flip latch" and go with the overflow hooked back up .

I'm hoping to get a good setup for my Jaz recirculating can. I didn't think I'd need to change the radiator cap.

If your flip cap is the recovery type it should work... I've used them on a couple of my later stuff with factory recovery systems without issue...

I don't have the cap for the radiator yet. What's a flip cap?

It has a red lever on top that opens the relief valve when pulled upward. I use one, but it's not for use with a coolant recovery system.

Ok, so with a recovery tank I don't need the radiator flip cap. Just a cap set for recovery as my original will need switched. Is this correct?
