Hi guys! I haven't posted in a long time I know but I have a question. I tried doing a search but couldn't find it. What year was the steel brace added in the Maverick/Comet doors and how much weight can you save removing it? Thanks in advance
Are you sure about that? I read somewhere that each brace weighs less than 10 pounds and they are a bear to cut out. I do know for a fact that a complete '73 door shell without glass and hinges weights right at 75 pounds.
I think that was a mid-year thing. My Comet is very early 72 production, one of the first few hundred made at KC, and no door braces. It also has 1971 non- retractable belts, mixed with 1972 rear seat and side panels .... it's a mutt.
I dunno about door braces but many of the Fed requirements are mandated at beginning of physical year, not year model. In plain english, could have been mandated beginning Jan 1 1972. In those days the mfgr were reluctant to make changes one could not readily see.
