My Maverick has been swapped over to a 289. I ordered the standard 289 bracket from summit but it will not bolt on due to the water pump. I have seen it mentioned that because the water pump inlet is a passenger side on a 289 and on the driver side on a Maverick that I might need to swap radiators for it to work. Is this accurate? Has anyone else had this issue? Will any other brackets work? Sorry I don't have any pictures the car is having a few others things worked on at this time.
I used the 60's style alternator bracket (289) and the 70's style adjustment arm with my crate engine swap that came with passenger's side water pump. No need to swap your radiator.
I would venture to say that the 302 stuff should mount to the 289 with no issue.. the "maverick 302" water pump should bolt up to the "289" timing cover
In 1970 water pump inlet (lower hose) changed from passenger to drive side. This means timing covers and water pumps for '65-'68 289 & '68-'69 302 are different from '70 up 302. Also includes balancer, timing marks, pullies, bracketry etc. Most parts only swap with complete changeover.
